Dream
Machine's ongoing contribution to the
colourful image of road racing goes back
over 2 decades, a policy of involvement
which has continuously linked the company
with both manufacturers and privateers to
demonstrate the design and production skills
which have made Dream Machine the industry
benchmark in motorcycle refinishing. |
|
 |
| |
|
|
|
| |
Dream Machine's
involvement in road racing started in the
early 80's, the days of 2 stroke 500's racing
in Britain. Steve Henshaw rode a variety
of RG500's, Simon Buckmaster a Honda Triple
and Rothmans Honda Britain riders Wayne
Gardner, Roger Marshall and Roger Burnett
all rode machinery painted by Dream Machine.
The emphasis in British racing changed
to 4 stroke machines with the 750 superstock
class, Dream Machine painted bikes for the
late Kenny Irons and Steve Henshaw and prototypes
for Loctite Yamaha.
As racing moved even further to 4 strokes
based on unlimited production and 600cc
machines available in showrooms, Dream Machine
painted bikes for 1989 and 1990 British
production champion Dean Ashton (a privateer)
and the Mick Grant works Durex Suzuki's
ridden by Phil Mellor and James Whitham.
James went on to win the 1991 superbike
championship on a Dream Machine painted
GSXR and contested the 1992 series on the
new shape GSXR750 with a Dream Machine designed
and painted colour scheme. |

During the eighties and nineties Dream
Machine painted many of the memorable bikes
of British Racing, the JPS Nortons ridden
by Steve Spray, Trevor Nation and Ron Haslam,
the white Isle of Man TT winning Norton
of Steve Hislop and the Duckhams Nortons
of Mark Farmer, Jim Moodie, Phil Borley
and 1994 British Superbike and 600 champion
Ian Simpson run by Colin Seeley and Brian
Crighton.
On the world stage Dream Machine designed
and painted Kevin Mitchells' 500 Yamaha
raced in Grand Prix and in 1991 Howard Selby
won the European Supersport championship
on a Dream Machine painted FZR600.
Steve Henshaw, Ray Stringer, Dean Ashton,
Michael Rutter and Steve Linsdell have all
competed over the years at the Macau Grand
Prix on machines with Dream Machine paintwork.
In 1992 Carl Fogarty and James Whitham teamed
up with Mick Grant to race at the Macau
Grand Prix, Dream Machine painted the Yamaha
500's, Carl won the race. |

Over the years
support for privateers has allowed Dream
Machine the freedom to create some of the
brightest images in British racing. In 1989
Chris White's CBR600 in dayglo streamers
was ground breaking, MCN described it as
"a psychedelic wild painted Honda".
Throughout the early nineties by supplying
sponsored design and paintwork Dream Machine
made levels of team presentation available
to a series of privateers which otherwise
would have been unachievable. |

1995
saw a continuation of the association with
Colin Seeley and Brian Crighton, following
the 1994 successes with the Duckhams Nortons
they moved to run the Castrol Honda Britain
team, Dream Machine supplied the season's
paintwork.
Dream Machine became the official paintwork
supplier to the Castrol Honda World Superbike
team in 1995 via a link with the Colin Seeley
led Castrol Honda Britain Superbike team.
Dream Machine was actively involved in designing
the colour scheme which remained with the
Castrol Honda team until 2000.
Dream Machine painted the Castrol Honda
RC45 ridden by Aaron Slight and as Castrol
involvement with Simon Crafar grew towards
the end of the season Dream Machine painted
the purple and black Italian Rumi Honda
RC45.
Dream Machine also painted the Honda Britain
RC45s of Phil Borley and Ian Simpson. These
riders were injured and substituted by Terry
Rymer and Jim Moodie later in the season.
The Dream Machine painted RC45's of the
Castrol Honda Britain team with McCallan,
Jefferies and Dunlop winning the Senior
TT were high profile at the Isle of Man

which the marshalls used as course bikes. |

designed and painted. |
|

|
| |
|
|
|
| |
1997
- Probably Dream Machine's heaviest year
of sponsorship in racing. In British Superbikes
the Colin Seeley led GSE Racing team Ducati
ridden by Sean Emmett (a race winner and
regular podium visitor), Sabre Kawasaki
team ridden by Ray Stringer (the series
privateer champion) and Steve Hislop and
the immaculately turned out 5-7 racing Ducati's
ridden by Dean Ashton and Andy Ward were
all Dream Machine designed and painted.
Dream Machine painted the RC45's ridden
by Aaron Slight and world championship winner
John Kocinski. A Dream Machine concept for
this season was design coordinated paddock

for the riders. |

|
|
|

1998
- Dream Machine painted RC45s ridden by
Aaron Slight and Colin Edwards.
As the Castrol Honda Supersport 600 team
was introduced Dream Machines involvement
grew, adapting the paint scheme to fit the
CBR600 and producing paintwork for CBR600
machines for James Toseland, the late Michael
Paquay and Kirk McCarthy. Paddock scooter
paintwork and personalised covers were again
supplied by to the team. James Toselands
later helmets were painted by Dream Machine.
1998 saw Dream Machine continue sponsorship
of Dean Ashton in the powerbike series and
Colin Seeley who managed a previously unheard
of Australian Karl Muggeridge, Dream Machine
designed and supplied paintwork throughout
the season for his Duckhams sponsored CBR600.
Dream Machine completely designed the Performance
Bikes racing team's colour scheme and supplied
paintwork to the CBR600 equipped team headed

Supersport series Kirk McCarthy and Jim
Moodie rode Dream Machine painted Castrol
Honda CBR600s. |

2001
- Painted for two separate manufacturers
teams, Kawasaki UK in the British Superbike
series, with Steve Plater and Michael Rutter
riding, and Castrol Honda UK in the British
Supersport series, Kirk McCarthy and John
McGuiness both coming close to winning the
title.
Sponsorship problems meant a change of
design halfway through the season for the
factory Kawasaki ZX7R machines, with Michael
Rutter finishing the season as the teams
sole rider.
Hawk Kawasaki contested the privateers
section of the Superbike series - painted
by Dream Machine and ridden by Mark Burr

the ex-factory WSB machines from 2002, and
this year is the official BSB presence of
Kawasaki UK.

the unluckiest and hardest working rider
in Supersport last year, finishing runner

Kagayama finished 3rd in the championship. |

superbikes ridden by Scott Smart and John Reynolds. Rider changes occurred
through the season, James Haydon replaced Scott and for the unfortunate
John plagued with injuries, an end of season crash at Brands prompted his
retirement. During the same season Dream Machine painted the GSVR bodywork
into Red Bull livery for the Suzuki Moto GP team's one off sponsorship deal
at Laguna Seca with bike's ridden by John Hopkins and Kenny Roberts. Dream
Machine also painted the Moto Gp Teams paddock scooters. |

2007 |
|
|
| |
For 2007 Dream-Machine painted both the British Superbikes and the Moto GP bikes for Suzuki. We painted the factory Suzuki GSVR800 machines ridden by John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen in the Moto GP championship.
We were responsible for transferring the project from the design stage to 3D prototype, implementing the changes necessary for it to become the finally approved race bike livery.
Dream Machine painted bikes have won World Superbike and Sidecar GP races and championships, but Chris Vermeulen’s win at the Le Mans round of the Moto GP championship was the first time that a Dream Machine painted bike has won a Moto GP race.
We also undertook the Rizla Suzuki GSXR1000 British superbikes of Chris Walker and Cal Crutchlow for the BSB championship.
Both teams use the base colour light blue with special effect pearl, which was originated by Dream Machine 7 years ago. |
